Description
The historic Frontispiece of Victor Hugo’s famous book Notre Dame De Paris is otherwise known in English as The Hunchback of Note Dame. Hugo aimed to draw attention to the medieval architecture of Paris which in 1830 was quickly being replaced or defaced. The novel goes into exquisite detail of the beautiful architecture of the now 1000-year-old cathedral. This included his horror at the replacing of the coloured glass of many of the windows with clear glass to let in the light. His attention led to the renovation of the church from 1844 to 1864.
